Boscombe beach bus back for the summer

Posted on Friday, 03 July 2009 03:59PM by Lisa Northover

Residents and visitors to Boscombe can take the strain out of their journey to the seafront by hopping aboard the number 14 Boscombe park and ride bus service.

The bus route, operated by Shoreline Travel launches tomorrow (Saturday 4 July 2009) and runs until 6 September 2009. The seasonal bus route operates daily every 20 minutes from the newly named train station ‘Pokesdown for Boscombe’ (previously Pokesdown Station) taking passengers to Boscombe Pier via Hawkwood Road car park and via the Littledown Centre at weekends.

The service is free all day to anyone with a valid train ticket to Pokesdown for Boscombe or Bournemouth stations. Those with a long-stay parking ticket for Hawkwood Road car park (or at weekends at the Littledown Centre) and concessionary pass holders can also enjoy free travel. The bus also accepts all other paying passengers.

Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport: “I’m pleased to see the return of this bus service for another summer and would encourage people to take advantage of this easy and free way to travel down to the beach.  The service will be particularly beneficial during the Bournemouth Air Festival helping visitors and residents to gain easy access to the seafront.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank South West Trains for their contribution to the costs of this service.”

Publicity leaflets are available at the Visitor’s Information Bureau, the Seafront Offices, Boscombe Library, the Town Hall Annex, and the coach station.
