Boscombe Crescent set to be transformed
Boscombe Crescent set to be transformed

The first phase of plans to transform the appearance and improve public safety in Boscombe Crescent will be submitted shortly.
As part of the Council’s Safer Communities programme of work and in an effort to regenerate Boscombe, plans are being put forward to improve the Crescent and to encourage residents and visitors to use Boscombe Crescent more often. This coincides with the recent granting of a premises licence which means small events can now be held at the Crescent.
Subject to planning permission, it is hoped that work can begin as early as Spring 2012. Some of the planned work in this first phase includes:
· Thinning out some of the larger more established trees and shrubs to improve light.
· New one metre high railings will be installed along the north, east and west boundaries of the Crescent to help protect new plants while keeping the existing pedestrian access points.
· Original parts of the wall will be retained.
· Removal of three poor-quality trees.
Improvement works would also include:
New ornamental plants and shrubs along the boundary of the Crescent .
Community planting area for local volunteers to contribute to the park.
Deep cleaning of all bins.
Repair street lighting.
Re-painting of benches.
Improving the quality of the grassed areas.
Weeding and general tidying.
Remove existing knee rails and fencing.
Councillor David Smith, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The proposed improvements for Boscombe Crescent sound fantastic and will add to the ongoing work to regenerate and enhance Boscombe as a place to live, work and visit. I’d like to thank local people for their views and suggestions so far in helping to improve the Crescent. We are determined to bring this public space back in to use, reduce anti-social behaviour and create a green area that local people can be proud of and will use.”
The plans follow a comprehensive consultation with the local community whose feedback has been crucial in helping to inform decisions made about the improvements.
The project has received funding of £55,000 from the Council.
