Boscombe Sea Change Project Update

Posted on Tuesday, 24 March 2009 11:41AM by Lisa Northover

Boscombe Sea Change – Project Weekly Newsletter #3

Date: 11th March 2009

Project Contact: andrew.emery@bournemouth.gov.uk Tel: 01202 451782

Spotlight on Community Engagement:

Project receives positive reception from community groups so far engaged:

• Disabled beach users

• Sea Road residents

• Project Stakeholders Group – representing: Traders, Hoteliers, local artists, Neighbourhood Management, ‘Friends of’ groups)

Key comments raised:

• Request the project engages with and uses local artists where possible. (Agree to encourage local artists, but becomes an issue for risk management over project deliverability)

• Concern that arts trail won’t be sufficient to encourage visitors up Sea Road to Precinct – only a regular bus service will do this (outside project scope). Note: this point is not so much a criticism of Sea Change proposals, more a comment on wider issues of parking & transportation facing Boscombe.

• Desire from Traders to see precinct lighting element installed in time for this summer. PM investigating further, but might prove not possible. (current project timeline aims for end of November).

• Desire to see work on accessible beach trackway, accessible toilet refurbishment at Coasters and disabled parking bays completed in time for summer (achievable).

Diary:

o Engagement with Sea Road residents: 11th March

o Engagement with Boscombe Traders: 17th March

Up to 6 properties within Precinct will be fitted with low energy LED lighting to enhance architectural elements. With capacity to co-ordinate colour changes, Council could literally ‘paint the town red’ or any other colour for special occasions and events. Creative lighting will make precinct a more welcoming space in the evening, drawing visitors and encourage local business to open later.
