The inspiration for such a market comes from those in London such as Camden and spitalfields. Wayne Hemingway of Hemingway Design who is supportive of this latest Boscombe initiative said:

“The Vintage at Goodwood Festival this summer proved that the concept of ‘vintage’ is truly cool and has come of age and that the joy of enjoying classic, timeless design, prolonging the life of clothing and being thrifty is spreading far and wide. It's a credit to Boscombe's increasing ‘cool’ that the town now hosts a Vintage Market.”

Boscombe already has an established mix of small creative businesses trading in antiques; art; and vintage clothing talent. The introduction of a high class vintage market with ‘a creative edge’ in the Crescent is not only helping to provide opportunities for small businesses, local artists, skilled crafts people and enterprising students, it also shows the potential of the Crescent open space, increases footfall in the area; and raises the profile of Boscombe as a creative arts and cultural hub.

Those of you who managed to come down to support the pilot Boscombe Vintage Market in October will have seen that it was a roaring success for stall traders and visitors alike. This was down to the creative businesses, both local and from afar, creating a market that showcased some amazing pieces of artwork, vintage clothes, jewellery, furniture and yet more wares, all selling in an extremely positive vibe.

The Boscombe Vintage Market is organised by the Boscombe Regeneration Partnership and supported by the Boscombe Area Regeneration Group, BARG.

The market is benefiting from the continued support of Koh Thai Tapas Restaurant in Boscombe who, amongst other things, enabled the pilot market to take place by providing sponsorship for the marquees. More local businesses, including Cherish Gifts and Bear & Bird Design, are also showing their support for future events by way of sponsorship.

The Boscombe Vintage Market will take place on every first Saturday of the month from February 2011 and we do hope that you will continue to support us.

We are creating a brand new website for the market where you will be able to sign up for e-newsletters, enquire about having a stall and find out more about who’s involved and a Flickr group where examples of work can be viewed. This is largely sponsored by Bear & Bird, a new Bournemouth based agency.
