English players have created history in European football by taking all four final spots in two major competitions of the continent. Arsenal and Chelsea were the record-breaking teams to make it to the finals of the Europa League. Moreover, Liverpool and Tottenham also managed to have dramatic wins against Barcelona and Ajax in the Champions League. In a first, all the four final teams belong to a single nation. They are to enter the finals of Europe’s top two competitions. Previously, there have been finals, where all the competitors were from England. Such an occurrence has happened twice. Tottenham won against the Wolves in 1971-72 Uefa Cup and Manchester United soared to victory against Chelsea in the 2007-08 Champions League.
Chelsea Manager Maurizio Sarri said in a statement, “The level is very high in England and the Premier League is the best championship in Europe.” Reports suggest that Chelsea is already sure about its spot after winning a top-four finish in the Premier League. Arsenal and Chelsea will meet in Baku, Azerbaijan – with a victory in Champions League. The Arsenal team could possibly become the fifth English side to qualify for the next season’s competition. Tottenham and Liverpool are to meet on June 1 in Madrid, Spain.
Reports suggest that club fans are facing travel issues, with flight prices soaring to £1,300 from the UK. Some airlines are also blamed for making profit. The achievements of the Premier League also assures an all-English Uefa Super Cup in August. The event will be played in Istanbul, Turkey.
