Getting PRESS - from who? to Woo Hoo!
1 day lesson led by a political blogger* and an artist*

Are you getting enough media coverage?
Do you know how to create and distribute your own effective press releases?

“Not only do I feel I now have the knowledge to write a successful press release, but also feel I am on a much clearer path with my business goals. Thank you!” Adrianna, designer

Why do I need press coverage?
Press coverage is GOLD DUST! It can help raise your profile, open doors, get you more clients, raise your prices, help you apply for funding, help you campaign..the sky’s the limit!

Who is this workshop for?
All individuals / businesses / events organisers / freelancers / creative practitioners (all disciplines) who want to generate more free press coverage (online and offline). It’s an introduction to PR / digital PR / web marketing and is designed for individuals or businesses who already have a website or other web presence (ie a blog / Flickr / Facebook business page). It’s for beginners (or those wanting a refresher) – the only assumed knowledge is a familiarity with using the internet and email. Our teaching style is direct and informal – you’ll leave feeling empowered!

What will be covered?
How to write a press release and what to do with it!
Your press release will be individually critiqued
Is my story newsworthy?
Press photos, what you need to know
How to create a press list
How not to annoy journalists!
Why your biography (or ‘about’ text) is vital
Your biography (or ‘about’ text) will be individually critiqued
How to use social media effectively to promote your business (an introduction)

What does the price include?
There are two trainers - Lisa Northover and Zoe Sinclair - so you’ll receive individual attention, there are just 14 places available. Course materials, tea/coffee & cake are included. Your place on the course is not confirmed until you have booked via eventbrite.

What do I need to bring?
You must provide your OWN (or borrowed) laptop
Notepad and pen
OPTIONAL: Press cuttings, biography, ‘about’ text, CV, past marketing materials ie flyers/posters (only if you already have these)
Packed lunch (or buy lunch nearby, there’s lots of choice)

What do people say about the day?

“Really inspiring, informative and great to bash about ideas with lots of people all moving in like minded circles. Very useful ideas and encouragement. Thank you!” Nicki, boutique owner

“Brilliant. Gave me so many ideas of things I need to do. Just gotta get this order done, then I can get on with all these fab new plans I have in my head!” Zoe, accessories designer

“The workshop has lifted the lid on the art of press release writing. I have already used the techniques I gleaned from the course. Very helpful and enlightening. I discovered new tricks and tips that I would otherwise been in the dark about. It was a wonderful networking experience too.” Johanna, fine artist

“Brilliant! Very informative and helpful. You fitted a huge amount in but it never felt rushed or too much. It was really really helpful.” Philip, photographer

“I am already a step closer to releasing the all important first press release and with a damn sight more confidence and professionalism!” Tristan, retailer

“The participant feedback we received was the best we had ever received for any brought in training event. Indeed I don't think I’ve ever witnessed the participants of any workshop or training course quite so engaged whilst on the course and quite so appreciative after the course.” Matt Desmier, Head of Enterprise, AUCB

“Thank you once again, it has been really helpful and you have been very patient with a bunch of rather slow, middle-aged, yet very keen, women!!” Diane, fine artist
