Local young people are to initiate their own photography project in the Boscombe area.

They are being encouraged by a partnership made up from Bournemouth Council Youth Service, Kidz on Track and the Boscombe Regeneration Partnership.

Of the scheme Helen McCann, project worker with Kidz on Track, said: “This is a great way to engage young people in the community, teaching them new skills and giving them a chance to express their opinions about the area in which they live.”

The aims of the project are to get the community thinking about their own area and for young people to engage with the community sharing their opinions.

The will create images of what they like and dislike about the Boscombe.

Also it is hoped that young people will form a relationship with local businesses.

The pictures will be displayed all around the Boscombe area including a space reserved in the Sovereign centre. There, it is hoped, awareness will be raised of the venture and include photography workshops.

Photography workshops are also being run at the Boscombe Regeneration partnership office in Roumelia Lane They will include how to use cameras, photo editing, printing, and mounting photographs.

Helen McCann said: “We want to get young people, businesses, and residents working together to create images about how they feel about their community and form new relationships.”

Also on the agenda for the regeneration of Boscombe is the One Community project. Part of which is a mural designed by Artist Natalie Guy. It is to be displayed in the sovereign centre and will be painted by local school children and local artists.

It will incorporate ideas from the Flash photography Group and it is hoped will be completed by June 2012.
