Green fingered residents in Bournemouth could benefit from the creation of eight new allotments in Springbourne if plans are given the go ahead. A planning application has been submitted to turn an old derelict piece of land atElizabeth Gardens in Springbourne into eight allotments including a new accessible plot for residents with mobility issues. The work at Elizabeth Gardens would include: - Create seven raised allotment plots
- Create one new accessible plot
- Install strong, secure fencing to the boundary with Victoria Road
- Plant an attractive wildflower herbaceous border at the front of the site to improve the look of the site as well as being good for pollination
- Install timber fencing to the east and west sides of the land to ensure privacy for neighbouring gardens
- Install secure storage for plot holders
- Install on site water storage for allotment use.
The project has received funding of £50,000 from the Home Office Community Action Fund. If planning permission is granted for the site, it is hoped that the allotments would be ready as early as Spring 2012. Allotment plots will be allocated to those residents currently on the allotment waiting list. |
