Petition demands housing inspections for Dave Wells Properties

Posted on Tuesday, 06 December 2011 10:06AM by Thomas Johnson
Chanel 4 Dispatches last night (5th December) looked into the quality of housing provided by Boscombe landlord Dave Wells, in a programme which labelled him as a 'slum landlord'.  The programme presented by Jon Snow was shown around the home of a mother and her children living in a house in Boscombe rented from the landlord. The mother of 3 told the programme how she had made numerous complaints both direct to Dave Wells Properties and to the council’s environmental health department. Though the issues were supposed to be fixed, Jon Snow described the house as a 'horror house'.

The programme is available to watch here http://www.channel4.com/programmes/dispatches/4od

Lisa Northover, previously a local councillor for Boscombe West, has supported the 'Evict Rogue Landlords' campaign set up by Shelter. She said "The two homes shown by Channel 4 Dispatches are just the tip of the iceberg. The accommodation in Boscombe is the worst in the South West, and this is reflected in the statistics for the area. Boscombe central is one of the 0.1% in the country, with residents dying 10 years younger than in other parts of Bournemouth”.

Lisa has launched an online petition today to drastically increase the number of housing inspections in the area. Lisa said "There have been crackdowns in the past, but often only 10 homes at a time have been inspected, we really need a comprehensive inspection of all housing in the area, and enforcement action to be taken”.
