SUCCESS SCORED IN GREEN GOALS CLEAN UP DAY

Posted on Thursday, 12 November 2009 05:22PM by

Star players from AFC Bournemouth were among those helping out at a community clean up day organised as part of the Green Goals project.

Cherries legend Steve Fletcher and players Jason Pearce and Lee Bradbury were joined by volunteers from the local community, the club’s Cherry Bear mascot, project partners and assisted by Council teams to spruce up an area adjacent to Kings Park in Bournemouth.

Between them the volunteers carried out litter picking, rubbish clearing and general sweeping and maintenance. Local youngsters also managed to grab a few autographs and get their picture taken with club stars.

Stuart Best, Area Manager, Street Services, said; “The day proved to be worthwhile and enjoyable and therefore totally in keeping with the spirit of the Green Goals project. We are grateful to AFC Bournemouth for sparing some of their top players to come and take part in the event.”

Rob Mitchell, Commercial Manager for AFC Bournemouth, said; “The club is proud to be a partner in the Green Goals project and our players were happy to come down and lend a hand. The clean up proved to be an overwhelming success and an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
By encouraging everyone to work together, we can all help to improve our environment.”

The Green Goals project was launched at AFC Bournemouth’s first home match of the season in August. The unique partnership linking local businesses, education and football is aimed at keeping Bournemouth a cleaner, safer, greener place to live and work. By working together on a number of high profile community initiatives during the 2009/10 football season, the partnership aims to raise environmental awareness and improve quality of life.

The Green Goals project partners are Bournemouth Borough Council Street Services, AFC Bournemouth, New Earth Solutions, New Milton Sand and Ballast and Castlepoint Shopping Park, Green Energy Centre and W&S Recycling.
