The Friends of Boscombe Chine Gardens
Our group was inaugurated & constitutioanalised on the 3rd of July 2002, following a series of presentations and consultation meetings with Bournemouth Borough Council, who out lined their proposed plans for the Gardens..
The Council and The Heritage Lottery Fund are jointly proposing to invest approximately
£2 million in Boscombe Chine Gardens in the next three years.
The following is taken from a Bournemouth Borough Council information leaflet.
“Over the next few years, Boscombe Gardens will be getting a brand new lease of life - with imaginative plans to revitalize the best of its Victorian past and add all sorts of exciting ideas to create a leisure facility fit for the future.
Boscombe Gardens will become a place for everyone, toddlers, grown-ups and grandparents - with the aim of restoring it to its rightful place in the day-to-day lives of all those who visit, live and work in the area.
We’ll be putting in new shrubs and plants, designing new displays of colourful bedding, relaying lawn, removing and replacing trees to achieve a better balance of habitats and re-establishing the ground cover and grassland that’s native to this area - and as a result, we expect the Gardens to become home to a greater variety of insects, birds and animals than ever before.
We’ll be improving the leisure and recreational facilities too - with a whole range of amenities and activities that will give young and old alike the chance to enjoy exercise, relaxation and healthy living in the way that suits them best.
Before long, Boscombe Gardens will come alive again. And that is something that we can all look forward to with pleasure.”
We are ordinary people who love the Chine and its gardens and we want to help “conserve and enhance” the area in what ever way that we can.
If you would like to be a part of this exciting development, we are looking for members, who can be as passive or active as they wish.
Being a member is enough!
We will be holding social; activity and community events, through out the year.
We will also be publishing an annual newsletter and providing regular up-dates on the developments within the Gardens.
