Vita Nova have many years experience working in schools and with former users, we are careful that we do not glamourise drug use or describe experiences which young people may find it hard to relate to. We do not imply that any drug use represents a ‘safe limit’ that can be copied it certainly was not for any of our volunteers. Our staff are experienced and skilled in facilitating pupil learning.

Vita Nova is a tier two open access service that offers people who have had a drug / alcohol addiction the opportunity to

give back to society
gain self esteem
learn skills
receive training
meet new people

in preparation to move on to further education and employment.

The Objects of the charity:

The advancement of public education in drug and alcohol awareness including issues related to sexual health, health, anti social behaviour and bullying in particular through the provision of public performances, drama productions, workshops and talks
And
The relief of recovering addicts through the provision of training and diversionary activities

Vita Nova would like to acknowledge the support from:
Neighbourhood Management, The Big Lottery Fund, Arts Council England (South West), European Social Fund, Bournemouth Borough Council, Community Foundation for Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset, Awards for All.

In early 1999, when the group first came together and still today, the belief and motivation was:
'If we can stop just one person going down the road we went it is worth it'.

"From the amount of response we have received, I believe it has stopped many young people and at least made people think about their actions and the choices they have in life" Sharon Muiruri.

Elin, one of the original group: "Vita Nova has given me the chance to be a productive member of my community, whilst having fun and learning new skills. In the last three years I've made friendships that will last forever as well as learning to work well with people I may not have in other circumstances. Being part of a troupe that's working well is a really brilliant experience".

Graham, a later volunteer: "It's made me realise as a recovering addict that I have something to offer my community as a whole that's constructive rather than destructive".

Current Projects:
Drama - We are currently developing new drama pieces looking at drugs and alcohol.
Workshops - A series of workshops for Townsend Youth Centre.
Workshops for people recovering from drug/alcohol addiction in West Howe and Boscombe..
